Programme overview
The skin biopsy course delivers blended learning focused on advancing practical skills in dermatological surgery. The course involves 2 days of face-to-face learning delivered by experts in the field of dermatological surgery. You will also have full access to our new online learning platform, housing our skin surgery lectures and procedural videos.

The face-to-face teaching programme includes a selection of tailored theory lectures in the mornings, followed by supervised surgical technique practice in the teaching laboratory. We maintain a high ratio of students to supervisors throughout all practical sessions.

Theory lectures (pre-attendance and face to face) will include: skin histopathology, surgical anatomy, local anaesthetic, medico-legal aspects of skin surgery, minor surgery planning, surgery preparation, surgical wound care, and potential complications of surgery.

The practical sessions will cover: local anaesthetic administration, basic biopsy techniques (shave, snip, punch), skin lesion excision, along with suturing and haemostasis techniques.

A course certificate is provided upon completion.

Who should attend?
This course is aimed at nurses who are new to, or early in their development of skin surgery skills, and may also be of interest to doctors at all levels of training who wish to get ahead with, or brush up on their skin surgery skills.
